Interoperabilität zwischen verschiedenen ECM-Repositories ist das Ziel der Standardisierungs-Initiative der OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards). Mit dem 2008 bei der OASIS eingereichten Standardisierungsvorschlag CMIS (Content Management Interoperabilty Services) ist ein technischer Rahmen gegeben, um den transparenten Zugriff auf Informationen aus verschiedenen Repositories zu gewährleisten. Ins Leben gerufen wurde die Initiative durch die Unternehmen EMC, IBM und Microsoft. Unterstützt wird sie inzwischen von über 50 Mitgliedern, darunter SAP, Oracle, Alfresco Software, OpenText und fme. Die Mitgliedschaft bei OASIS ermöglicht fme die aktive Mitarbeit an dem zukünftigen ECM-Standard CMIS und schafft direkten Zugang zu einem internationalen Technologie-Netzwerk.
